Social media is like people watching. I heard someone say that today. Pinterest, Instagram, Facebook, blogs, YouTube...they are all people-watching outlets today. I know I love to see what's going on in everyone's life, whether they are my best friend, a blogger I love, or a YouTube beauty guru. It's fascinating!
Except I've come to realize the difference between social media/internet people watching and real people watching.
Pinterest, Instagram, YouTube...it's all about the STUFF in our lives. We watch what others eat, buy, or what to buy. It's mostly all material. (Now, not all of it is about material things. There does come along an inspiring quote, motivation to do something new, or new things to learn.) But when you actually people watch, I tend to notice more of what people do, rather than what they bought or ate. It's more real, and I think it can be more rewarding. So maybe we can get our daily dose of people watching through going out and exploring, rather than scrolling through Pinterest, Twitter, or Facebook pages.
I do realize that this is kind of ironic, since I'm writing this on a blog and I absolutely love all social media sites too. I just had these thoughts about the internet trends of today. Hope they made you think a little bit too.
